The painting shows a dwelling on the lower slopes of Cnicht

This is the terminating spur of the Gribin Ridge as it falls down into Cwm Idwal

There are huge holes hundreds of feet deep with vertical sides plunging into deep black pools

To the west of Portmeirion village lies the Gwyllt

the Moelwynion is on the southern edge of  a high plateau and the effect of the colder plateau air meeting the warmer coastal air can create some spectacular cloud formation

The photographer had used a large lens to exaggerate the height of Snowdon as well as its nearness to Portmeirion.
