北京出生，在美國東西兩岸生活了多年，是多部詩集的作者，包括近年台北秀威出版的《這還不是早晨》、《離你最近》，和美國西風出版社（Zephyr Press）的《First Mountain》。張耳也從事中英詩翻譯，她翻譯的美國詩人約翰．阿什伯瑞的作品曾在《一行》、《今天》、《詩歌島》和《當代國際詩壇》上發表。她和美國作曲家合作的英文歌劇《鏡月》（Moon in the Mirror）和《蔡琰》（Fiery Jade: Cai Yan）近年在美國上演。張耳的詩集《山緣》於2005年在唐山出版社出版，她是2005年台北詩歌節特邀詩人。
